Now Colorado College gets to play the waiting game.
After suffering a 1-0 loss to the University of Memphis in the Conference USA semifinals on Friday, the Tigers will sit on pins and needles until Monday evening before learning whether their 12-6-2 overall record is good enough to warrant an at-large bid to this year’s NCAA tournament.
Memphis, meanwhile, advances to Sunday’s C-USA title match against regular-season champion University of Central Florida, which claimed a 1-0 triumph over Alabama-Birmingham in Friday’s other semifinal.
MU’s Lizzy Hildebrandt scored the only goal of the match in the 15th minute, converting with a header of Ashley Berra’s corner kick.
CC wound up with a 15-10 advantage in shots at Westcott Field in Dallas, Texas, but couldn’t get anything past Memphis goalkeeper Elise Kuhar-Pitters, who finished with seven saves including four in the second half. Seniors Emily Beans and Kelly LaVoie launched three shots apiece to lead the team.
“I’m proud of the way we came out and generated some opportunities in the second half tonight,” head coach Geoff Bennett said. “We made a good push, but it was just one of those nights. Now we’ve got to keep our fingers crossed and hope that we get to play again next week.”
The NCAA will announce the 64-team field for its post-season playoffs at 6 p.m. (MT) Monday.
