The Colorado College cross country teams added to their legacy of success in the classroom by earning the 2009 Team Academic Award from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Additionally, four members of the men's team – Max Gerken (undeclared), Dan Kraft (chemistry), Andrew Wagner (biochemistry) and David Wilder (undeclared) – earned All-Academic honors for posting a minimum 3.3 GPA and finishing among the top 35 at their respective NCAA regional meet.
CC was one of only seven schools with four or more runners honored.
On the women's side, the Tigers posted a 3.39 GPA and were one of 153 Division III women's programs to earn the distinction. Whitworth University finished first at 3.73.
The CC men recorded a 3.36 GPA, the top mark among the six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schools honored. Rensselaer led the way with a 3.68 GPA.
A total of 110 men's programs were recognized nationwide.
It marks the fifth consecutive year that both the men's and women's teams earned the distinction.
Colorado College joined fellow SCAC members Centre, DePauw, Hendrix, Rhodes and Trinity in having both their men's and women's programs honored.
To qualify for the award, a team must have compiled a team score at an NCAA regional meet and posted a cumulative minimum grade-point average of 3.10.
