The Colorado College men's soccer team added to its legacy of outstanding performance in the classroom by earning the NSCAA/adidas College Men's Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year. The award, given by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, honors teams that post a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale).
“I'm extremely pleased the men's soccer team performs extremely well not only on the field, but exceedingly well in the classroom,” said head coach
Horst Richardson. “Our student-athletes recognize there is more to college life than playing sports.”
The Tigers ranked fifth in the nation, regardless of NCAA division, with a 3.42 combined GPA.
It marks the sixth time in seven years that CC has earned the distinction, as well as the eighth overall, which puts Richardson's program in a tie for the 10th most awards received since the program was instituted in 1996.
Colorado College and Metropolitan State College of Denver were the only men's programs in the state to earn the distinction last year.
The Tigers also were the only Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team to be recognized.
