Jenks breaks school record in 5,000 meters

Jocelyn Jenks broke the school record in the 5,000 meter run and met the provisional qualifying time for the upcoming NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships on Saturday night at the Occidental Invitational in Los Angeles.
 
The senior from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., finished fifth in a personal-record time of 17:22.21, beating Jenny Jorgensen's record from 2005 by just over 26 seconds.
 
Jenks' mark is the 13th best in Division III this season with two weekends of qualifying to go. She will have to wait unti May 25 to learn if she qualified for what is usually a 16-runner field.
 
Senior Megan Zaranek finished 21st in a personal-best time of 18:15.03, while senior Ashley Poland was two spots behind in a record time of 18:18.72.
