No longer among the ranks of the undefeated after a pair of losses last Friday and Sunday, Colorado College hopes to get back on the winning track this weekend in its first two Conference USA matches of the season.
The 6-2-1 Tigers are on the road for the second consecutive week, opening league play with a 7 p.m. (CT) contest against SMU in Dallas on Friday, then continuing on to the University of Tulsa for a 1 p.m. (CT) game on Sunday.
Despite seeing his team fall at the University of Illinois (2-0) and Purdue University (2-1) last weekend, head coach
Geoff Bennett was pleased with CC's effort.
“We played well, especially in the second half of both games,” said Bennett, whose starting lineup for the two games included nine freshmen and sophomores. “The kids are in good spirits. Even though we didn't get the results we wanted, we're pretty happy with the way we played.”
Friday marks the 15th all-time meeting between Colorado College and SMU, with each team having won seven of the previous 14. The Mustangs handed CC a rare home defeat last season, escaping Stewart Field with a 2-1 victory. The Tigers are 7-1-1 in nine all-time matches against Tulsa after claiming a 4-0 triumph at home last Oct. 7.
The recent seven-game undefeated streak was CC's longest to start a season during Bennett's five-year tenure as head coach, and the program's best overall since opening the 2000 campaign with eight consecutive victories.
