President Celeste addresses athletics issues

On March 24, Colorado College announced plans to discontinue the varsity sports of football, softball and water polo, effective at the end of the current academic year.

This very difficult decision, a result of the global economic crisis and a mandate from the Board of Trustees for the college as a whole to cut annual spending by  $8 to 12 million, was met with a wide array of responses – both supportive and disapproving – from the general public, CC alumni, parents and the affected student-athletes themselves.

Many questions and concerns have emerged from the feedback.  And, in a second letter to the CC community, President Richard F. Celeste addresses those issues.
