SCAC cites Corliss, Kallweit

Sophomores earn post-season recognition

Two members of the Colorado College softball team – Sandy Corliss and Alyssa Kallweit – earned honorable mention accolades from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for their performance during the 2009 season.

Kallweit, who also was named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team, led the Tigers with a .339 batting average, 21 hits, 14 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. Seven of her hits – three home runs and four doubles – were for extra bases.

One of Kallweit's round trippers was a grand slam that lifted the Tigers to a 7-4 victory over Trinity University on March 28. The sophomore center fielder also threw out the potential tying run at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the CC defeat the University of Dallas, 3-2, in the season opener.

Corliss ranked third on the team with a .233 batting average and six RBI, and was tied for third with 14 hits. She led the Tigers with nine walks and six sacrifices, and was second with a pair of homers.

The sophomore played third base and catcher, starting all 60 games during her two seasons at CC. Corliss led the team with 41 assists and her .928 fielding percentage ranked third.

Corliss tied her single-game high for hits by going 3-for-4 with one run scored and drove in another during a 8-0 victory over the College of St. Scholastica on March 15.
