Ignited by Madison Whitehead's goal just 5:24 into the match, Colorado College got an early jump on the road Friday and finally tasted its first Conference USA victory of the season.

It took another tally by senior defender Sydney Fetter midway through the second half, but the Tigers prevailed at the University of Tulsa, 2-1, to snap a five-game winless streak overall. 

Fetter, who scored for the second consecutive match, converted for the game winner off a corner kick by senior forward Tiffany Brown at 61:13, just 5:14 after the Hurricane had pulled even on a penalty kick by Brandi Neilson.

Colorado College improved to 1-3-1 in league play and 5-4-4 overall, while Tulsa dropped to 0-5 in C-USA and 5-8 for the season. 

"I'm very, very pleased with the mentality of this team," said head coach Geoff Bennett. "We keep showing a lot of heart. Tulsa really battled hard on their home field tonight, and we competed every step of the way. As long as we do keep doing that, good things are going to happen for us."     
 
Whitehead, a freshman midfielder, flicked home a goalmouth cross from the right side by sophomore Brittney Lyman before many of the small crowd of 232 had settled in their seats.

Neilson's goal tied the contest early in the second half, at the 55:59 mark, but CC roared right back less than six minutes later.

Junior keeper Caitlin Hulyo made six saves as the Tigers finished with a 16-12 advantage in overall shots and a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
