DeGayner finishes 24th at NCAAs in 50 free

Jordan DeGayner made a huge splash in his first event at the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, which are being held at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center.

DeGayner finished 24th in the 50-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 21.10, which was only two tenths of a second from qualifying for Wednesday night's consolation final and only .09 off Howie Silleck's school record of 21.01 set in 2001.

DeGayner was seeded 48th in the event.

“Jordan had a great swim this morning,” head coach Anne Goodman James said. “The 50 is an off event for him and it was great to see him with this much speed. We feel like he has hit this second taper well and we can't wait until his main event tomorrow.”

DeGayner is seeded sixth for Thursday's 200 free, the distance at which he won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title in a school-record time of 1:40.14.

He also will compete in the 100 free on Saturday.
