Centre pulls away as Tigers go cold

Colorado College missed eight of its last nine shots and watched Centre College pull away for a 66-54 victory in a battle of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference division leaders on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers pulled to within a point at 51-50 when Nick Rose drained a three-pointer with 5:28 to play, but the Colonels took advantage of CC's cold shooting and went on a 13-point run that didn't end until Ben Foley made a layup with 1:12 to go.

Rose led all scorers with 26 points, the tenth time this season he scored 20 or more points in a game. Ryan Milne added 11 points and four assists.

Brady Ohlsen grabbed nine rebounds to become the second Tiger to record 700 in a career. He needs 39 more to tie Elliott Broadnax (1996-2000) at the top of Colorado College's all-time list.

Greg Ross paced Centre with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Alex Lloyd just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

After Rose and Foley scored the first points of the game, the Colonel answered with 11 in a row to build a seven-point advantage just over five minutes into the contest. Ross gave Centre a 30-17 lead with 6:11 remaining in the first half, only to see the Tigers battle back with an 11-3 run to close to within five points after 20 minutes.

Rose scored CC's first six points of the second half to get his team to within a point on two occasions, but each time the home team scored before the Tigers had a shot at taking the lead.

The loss marks the first time Colorado College has dropped back-to-back conference games this season. The Tigers still own a two-game lead over Trinity University in the SCAC's Western Division with an 8-3 record and are 12-8 overall.

Centre improved to 10-1 in the SCAC and 15-3 overall.

Colorado College plays host to Austin College next Saturday at 6 p.m.
