Box Score The game looked to be going into overtime with the score tied at 69-69 with five seconds left in the game, but Rhodes College hit a last second shot to earn the win and beat Colorado College, 71-69, Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tenn.
The Tigers were down 68-64 with just under a minute remaining in the game, but senior
Jeremiah Waters hits a three-pointer with 51 seconds left on the clock to pull within a point of the Lynx.
CC fowled Rhodes with 13 seconds left in the game to send Andrew Galow to the line. Galow made his first free-three attempt to take the score to 69-67, but missed his second attempt where sophomore
Daniel Webb was able to grab the rebound and give the Tigers possession of the ball.
Sophomore
Ryan Milne attempted a jumper with six ticks left on the clock, but his shot was blocked out of bounds by Geoff Livsey. CC still had possession of the ball and called a timeout. When the Tigers returned to the floor Milne cut to the basket and laid it in to tie the game at 69-69 with five seconds left in the game.
The game appeared to be on its way to overtime, but Galow made a layup at the buzzer to earn the 71-69 victory for Rhodes.
The Tigers had four players score in double figures on Sunday. Waters and freshman
Chris Lesnansky each scored a team-high 15 points, while Milne and junior
Ian Rewoldt added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Colorado College was down 17-12 midway through the first half, but went on an 8-3 run to tie the game for the first time at 20-20 with 8:38 remaining in the half. Webb ignited the run with a three pointer with 10:48 left on the clock and Milne completed the run with a three of his own and two made free throws.
The game was tied for the fourth time at 25-25 when Milne hit a jumper with just under five minutes remaining, but Rhodes finished the half on a 6-0 run to take a 31-25 lead at halftime.
CC began the second half with a Lesnansky layup, which sparked a 23-9 run and gave the Tigers one of their largest leads of the game at 48-40 with 11:55 remaining in the game.
Rhodes rallied back with a 16-5 run to retake the lead and make the score 56-53 with 6:19 left on the clock. The game remained close the rest of the way with the Lynx not obtaining a lead larger than six points during the final minutes.
Milne ran the Tiger offense dishing out seven assists and also added a team-high three steals on defense. Rewoldt led CC's defense with six rebounds.
Rhodes was led by Galow with 26 points, seven assists and seven rebounds. Kory Kilpatrick scored in double-figures with 12 points to aid the Lynx offense.
Colorado College dropped to 8-8 on the season and 5-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Rhodes improved to 12-6 on the season and 7-2 in conference action.
The Tigers return home next weekend as they host Birmingham-Southern College and Oglethorpe University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
