Tigers fall to Tulsa in shootout

Box Score Now it's the old familiar waiting game again.

Colorado College won't know until 2:30 p.m. MT on Monday whether it has earned the program's first NCAA playoff bid since 2006.

The Tigers find themselves in that position after suffering a 2-1 post-overtime shootout setback to the University of Tulsa on Friday in semifinals of the 2012 Conference USA Championship Tournament in El Paso, Texas.

The result officially counts as a tie, giving them a still very impressive 14-3-5 record for the season. But, with the league's automatic NCAA berth going to the winner of Sunday's title match between Tulsa and either UCF or SMU, an at-large bid is what CC must hope for.

The Golden Hurricane, which battled back from a 1-0 deficit to force overtime after senior Kelly Browne's rebound goal snapped a scoreless deadlock and put Colorado College up in the 53rd minute, converted on all five of its penalty kicks in the shootout. While Tulsa keeper Hayley Harryman could not stop PKs by Kaeli Vandersluis, Katie Uyenishi, Jessie Ayers and Rachel Herron, she knocked away CC's first attempt by Madison Whitehead for the save that made the difference.

Harryman finished with four saves in the contest, while Hanna Berglund made seven for the Tigers through 110 minutes of playing time before junior Kody Kornack entered for the shootout.

Herron assisted on the go-ahead goal by Browne, which was the senior defender's first career tally since transferring to Colorado College.

The lead lasted until the 71st minute, when Camille Pelley pulled the Hurricane even on a rebound after Berglund knocked out a shot from the right side by Claire Nicholson. Tulsa heads into Sunday's championship match with a record of 12-5-4.
