Box Score Three seniors came through in the clutch as Colorado College rallied late in overtime to defeat the University Wisconsin-Stout, 82-80, on Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the UW-Stout Tip-Off Tournament.
Bobby Roth buried a three-pointer with 13 seconds remaining to tie the score at 80-80, and then after a steal by
Eric Houska,
John Hatch sank a pair of free throws with less than a second on the clock to provide the winning margin.
The Tigers led 77-75 after junior guard
Edmund Pendleton made two free throws with 1:15 remaining in overtime, but UW-Stout went back in front on senior guard Sam Ortmann's trey. The Blue Devils extended their lead to three points after freshman guard Joe Duty made a pair of free throws with 27 ticks to go.
CC appeared to have the game in hand when sophomore forward
CooXooEii Black sank two free throws with four seconds left in regulation to make the score 71-69, but junior guard Brandon Emery scored for UWS as time expired to send the game to overtime.
Houska finished with a team-leading 22 points, making eight of 16 shots from the floor and five of nine from behind the arc. He also dished out five assists and had a pair of steals.
Hatch scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half when Colorado College overcame a 60-53 deficit during the final 7:36. The Wisconsin native also grabbed five rebounds and recorded two steals.
Senior forward
Chris Martin recorded 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots for the Tigers, while Roth made all of four of his field-goal attempts and finished with 10 points.
Overtime was the last thing anyone was thinking about during the opening minutes of the game when the Tigers made seven of their first eight shots en route to an 18-0 lead.
Thanks in part to senior guard Isaac Elliott, who finished with a game-high 25 points, the Blue Devils answered with a 29-10 run and took their first lead on a three-pointer from Emery with a little less than five minutes remaining in the first half.
Ortmann finished with 14 points for UW-Stout, while Emery and junior forward Keegan Dickson each added 11.
Colorado College plays its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 22, when Carleton College visits Reid Arena for the first game of the 2017 Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Invitational.
