Reese, Fechter earn all-West Region honors

Jordan Reese and Matt Fechter have been named to the Division III all-West Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Reese, a senior midfielder, was a second-team selection, while Fechter, a freshman forward, was named to the third team.

A product of Montrose, Colo., Reese set career highs with 10 goals, 12 assists and 32 points. He was a first-team selection by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference after he led the league in assists, tied for third in points and finished seventh in goals.

“Jordan was a dynamic player from the Western Slope, where we used to think soccer was non-existent,” Head Coach Horst Richardson said. “He was deadly in front of the goal, calm and collected under pressure, and entertained the crowds with his razzle-dazzle footwork.”

Reese had a foot in seven of the Tigers' game-winning goals, scoring a team-high four and assisting on three others. He was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Week after recording two goals and two assists in a 4-0 victory over Austin College.

Reese collected six goals and eight assists during a career-best seven-game point streak as CC won five of seven games in the month of October.

Fechter, the SCAC Newcomer of the year and a first-team all-conference selection, led the Tigers with 11 goals. He finished second with 25 points and was fourth with three assists. He ranked first among SCAC newcomers in both goals and points.

“Matt made an immediate impact,” Richardson said. “He always was a threat in the opponent's half of the field because of his powerful attacking play and physical presence. He was a dangerous header of the ball and had a laser-cannon shot.”

A native of Westfield, N.J., Fechter was a two-time SCAC Offensive Player of the Week. He scored four times during a 6-1 victory over Oglethorpe University, including the first game winner of his career.

Colorado College finished the season 10-9-1overall and tied for third in the SCAC with a 6-4-0 record.
