Colorado College saw its five-game winning streak come to an end with an 86-72 loss to the University of Sioux Falls on Saturday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.
The Cougars, who are in transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II status, shot .567 from the floor and took advantage of 14 CC turnovers to build a 48-19 lead after 20 minutes, and the Tigers were never able to fully recover.
Sioux Falls improved to 9-5, while Colorado College slipped to 7-2.
USF led by 21 points with 7:33 remaining in the game, but freshman guard Hannah Hoopingarner scored 10 consecutive points, draining a pair of three-point shots 39 seconds apart and then adding two layups to make the score 71-60 with 4:51 to play.
CC pulled to within 76-67 when Collier Clegg scored three of her 16 points with 3:03 to go, but the Cougars made 10 of 12 free throws during the final 2:37 to ice the game.
Becky Luetjen scored 11 of her game-high 17 points in the second half to aid the Tigers' comeback attempt. She also had a team-high eight rebounds and dished out a career-high five assists.
Alyssa Aldaz, Kalli-Anne Kemling and Hoopingarner chipped in 10 points apiece.
Colorado College made six of 12 three-point attempts in the second half after going just 2-4 during the opening 20 minutes. The Tigers shot .424 during the final 20 minutes after making just eight of 26 field-goal attempts in the first half.
Sioux Falls was led by Becky Christofferson and Jamey Hofer, who each scored 10 points. Holli Aggen and Chelsa Baxa had 11, while Elizabeth Hildreth added 10.
Colorado College will be idle until Jan. 2 when Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play resumes at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
