Melanie Auguste added to her impressive list awards on Saturday when she was named Player of the Year by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. She also earned first-team All-SCAC honors for the second consecutive season.
Auguste is the first player in SCAC history to lead the league in both scoring (20.2 points per game) and assists (7.1 assists per game). She also is second in steals (2.3 per game) and third in rebounding (8.9 per game).
During the regular season, the senior point guard scored in double figures in 23 of 24 games and had 20 or more points on 12 occasions, including a pair of 30-point efforts against Trinity University.
A three-time SCAC Player of the Week during the 2008-09 season, Auguste tallied 11 double-doubles and two triple-doubles.
The product of Cameron Park, Calif., finished her career as CC's all-time leader with 607 assists and 243 steals. She also ranks No. 3 with 1,572 points and 100 three-point baskets, and is No. 4 with 815 rebounds. Her totals 2008-09 totals of 499 points and 223 rebounds were personal single-season highs.
Auguste was recently named one of 10 finalists for the Jostens Trophy – a national award created by the Rotary Club of Salem, Va., to honor the most outstanding men's and women's Division III basketball players of the year.
Hansberry averaged 12.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, which ranked 14th and 5th in the conference, respectively.
