Box Score Sophomore forward
Tim Huettel struck for a pair of goals and set up to others to lead the Colorado College men's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Centenary College in the final game of the regular season on Saturday.
CC improved to 13-2-3 overall and 11-1-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Tigers currently hold a 2-point lead over Trinity University atop the league standings, however TU can claim the regular season crown and top seed for next week's SCAC Championship with a victory at Schreiner University on Sunday.
Huettel scored the only goal Colorado College needed in the 11th minute off a feed from senior defender
Trevor Houghton. A little more than three minutes later, Huettel found the net with a corner kick to complete his third multiple-score contest of the year.
Junior midfielder
Tommy Riley gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead midway through the first half with the first of his two markers, then
Max Grossenbacher converted on the first of two penalty kicks in the 43rd minute as CC stretched its advantage to four at the break.
Colorado College sealed the victory by scoring three times in a span of 1:55 early in the second half.
Riley found the net with a header off Huettel's free kick from the left side in the 51st minute, then junior midfielder
Nathan Andersen scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder
Brian Rubin 1:19 later. Grossenbacher finished the run with his second penalty kick.
With his eighth and ninth markers of the season, Grossenbacher climbed into 25th place on program history with 21 career goals. The senior midfielder is 5-for-5 on penalty kicks this year and 8-for 9 throughout his career.
Freshman forward
Daniel Krueger completed the scoring in the 79th minute with his first career goal off touches from Huettel and freshman defender
Cam Stopforth.
The eight goals were the most for the Tigers since an 11-0 victory over Cornell College on Sept. 13, 2008. It is also the most for CC in a conference game.
At the other end of the pitch, the Colorado College defense posted its fifth consecutive shutout and eighth of the season.
Sophomore
Theo Hooker stopped a pair of shots during 70 minutes in goal. Freshman
Dylan Ward played the final 20 minutes in his first collegiate appearance.
Colorado College returns to action next Saturday in a semifinal game of the 2015 SCAC Championship at Stewart Field. The complete tournament schedule will be announced on Sunday.
