Tigers Finish Eighth at Phoenix Fall Classic

The Colorado College men's swimming and diving team finished in eighth place at the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic this weekend in Chicago, Ill.

"After skipping the first day of the meet for academic reasons, we had to play catch up over the weekend," head coach Anne Goodman James said. "We were in a great facility and the outstanding competition helped bring out good performances."

Sophomore Ian Carey and freshman Ethan Schick led the Tigers over the weekend. Carey finished seventh in 200-yard breaststroke and 14th in the 100 breaststroke, and joined Schick, sophomore Trey Watmore and freshman Drew Ceglinski on the seventh-place 800-yard freestyle relay squad.

Schick, meanwhile, earned a 10th-place finish in the 100 butterfly and joined senior captain Yueyang Yu on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.

Individually, Yu finished 10th in the 200 breaststroke and 13th in the 100 breaststroke races, while Watmore was 15th and Ceglinski 16th in the 200 individual medley.

"Ethan Schick again led things on the men's side," Goodman James said. "Yang Yu really stepped up with a much improved performance in the 200 breaststroke and was important in our freestyle relays."

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 5 with a dual meet at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
