Third-Place Finish at Phoenix Fall Classic

Led by a first and second-place finish by sophomore diver Mary Rose Donahue, the Colorado College women's swimming and diving team placed third at the University of Chicago Phoenix Fall Classic in Chicago, Ill.

Donahue won the 1-meter event on Sunday with an 11-dive score of 436.95 points, following up Saturday's second-place finish in the 3-meter with 406.45 points. She has won every 1-meter event so far this season.

The Tigers, who did not compete on the event's first day, moved into sixth place in the 10-team competition after several impressive relays on Saturday. Olivia Dilorati, Emily Harrison, Erin Holmes and Justina Zuckeramn finished fourth in the 800 freestyle relay, while Dilorati and Zuckerman joined Megan Gillespie and Ellen Silk to finish fifth in the 200 medley relay.

"After skipping the first day of the meet for academic reasons, we had to play catch up over the weekend," head coach Anne Goodman James said. "We were in a great facility and the outstanding competition helped bring out good performances."

Individually, Dilorati came within four-hundredths of a second of winning the 100-yard butterfly race on Sunday, finishing second with season-best time of 57.71 seconds. She also posted a seventh-place finish in the 200 backstroke.

"Olivia swam an amazing race in the 100 fly, finishing a close second," Goodman James said. "Her time of 57.71 is by far the fastest she's ever been in season and moves her up to eighth on the national top times list."

Gillespie had a very successful Sunday by finishing fifth in the 400 individual medley and seventh in the 200 breaststroke after placing ninth in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday. Silk, meanwhile, earned sixth place in the 200 butterfly and seventh in the 100 butterfly.

Three freshmen posted top 10 finishes as well for the Tigers. Kate Guynn finished eighth in the 200 breaststroke and 10th in the 100 breaststroke, Hannah Cooper was eighth in the 100 backstroke and Chaney Skilling placed 10th in the 100 backstroke.

"Megan Gillespie started coming into her own this weekend with outstanding swims in the 400 IM and 200 breast and Chaney (Skilling) has started to show her value in the freestyle and backstroke events," Goodman James said.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 5 with a dual meet at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
