Box Score Colorado College was seconds away from its second victory of the season, but the University of Dallas leveled the score with 23 seconds remaining in regulation and escaped Stewart Field with a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon.
Â
Junior defender
Nathan Andersen put the Tigers ahead in the 76th minute when he scored off passes from defenders
Cam Stopforth and
Jack McCormick.
Â
Stopforth sent a cross from outside the right edge of the box toward the back post, where McCormick was waiting to head the ball back into the crease. Andersen jumped on the pass and put a shot into the left side of the net from eight yards out for his first tally of the season and second of his career.
Â
"If there was one bright spot, it was that goal which was nicely executed," head coach
Scott Palguta said. "We put an emphasis on set pieces during the preseason and now we have three goals in four games. If there's a silver lining, that's it."
Â
The one-goal lead held up until the final minute when CC junior goalkeeper
Theo Hooker stopped a high shot, but the rebound dropped directly in front of junior forward Barton Holdridge, who tipped it in for his fourth score of the season.
Â
"We didn't play well today," Palguta said. "We made a mistake at the end, but did we deserve to win the game based on the 110 minutes of work we put in? I don't know.
Â
"Theo bailed us out time and time again this year and we need to be there to pick him up. We didn't do that today."
Â
Hooker made three of his five saves during the first half when UD launched five of their nine shots.
Â
Junior goalkeeper Tino Gamueda stopped six shots for the Crusaders, who are 1-2-1 so far this season.
Â
The Tigers finished with an 18-9 advantage in total shots and a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
Â
"My biggest concern is fatigue with four overtime games already this year," Palguta said. "The guys have logged a lot of minutes already, but the next game is coming whether they like it or not."
