Ted Jacobi made 11 saves and got a little help from the post, the crossbar and Beau Sorg to help DePauw escape with a 1-1 tie against Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer game on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Jordan Reese gave Colorado College an early lead when he took a pass from
Trevor Cobb and sent a shot from the top of the box just inside the left post. But from that point on, the Tigers were unable to find the net.
Salvatore Greco tied the game 2:27 later when he took a feed from Kaes Kamman and put his shot through traffic toward the far post.
Colorado College had a golden opportunity to break the tie in the 28th minute when Jacobi came out from the net to make a play, but he was unable to control the ball. Cobb gained control at the top of the box and sent a shot just under the crossbar, but Sorg was able to head the ball away to keep the game tied.
Jacobi made a tough save with 7:50 remaining in the first half off a header from
Kevin Ecke, and then he stopped
Logan Boccard from 12 yards out just over 10 minutes into the second half.
CC started to get an inclination it wasn't going to be their day when
Wes Rikkers nailed the crossbar from the top of the box off a corner kick by Reese, and Boccard hit the inside of the far post from the right side of the box with 18:57 to go.
DePauw's best scoring opportunity came in the 77th minute when Gary Pett sent a shot from the right side of the box just outside the far post.
Colorado College outshot DePauw 34-7 overall and had a 12-3 advantage in shots on goal. CC had nine shots in overtime, compared to two for DePauw.
Colorado College (9-3-1/2-1-1 SCAC) will play host to Centre College on Sunday. DePauw (8-1-4/4-0-2 SCAC) will travel to Austin College.
