Logan Boccard broke a scoreless tie in the 69th minute and
Brian Engle stopped all five shots he faced to lead the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Centre College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon at CC's Stewart Field.
Boccard scored his fourth game-winning goal of the season after
Brendan Douglas sent a crossing pass through traffic from the right side of the box. Boccard was left unmarked in the center of the penalty area and scored from 10 yards out with a shot toward the left post.
The game was a statistical draw in the first half, but the Tigers slowly began to take control midway through the second.
Colorado College narrowly missed taking the lead in the 62nd minute when
Wes Rikkers headed the ball a foot outside the left post off a corner kick from
Jimmer Comerford, and Centre goalkeeper Aaron Arndt denied
Trevor Cobb's blast from the middle of the penalty area just over four minutes later.
The Colonels' best scoring chance came in the 86th minute when Chris Allen tried to lift a shot from the right side of the box, but Engle was able to get just enough of the ball to lift it over the crossbar.
Engle finished with five saves while improving to 7-1-0 with his fourth shutout. Arndt had nine saves on 10 shots for Centre.
Colorado College finished with a 19-16 advantage in total shots, while the Colonels had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks,
The Tigers (10-3-1/3-1-1 SCAC) are currently in fifth place in the SCAC standings with 10 points, but they have played two games in hand on the two teams directly ahead of them. Centre (12-4-0/5-2-0) is third with 15 points, but has played seven conference games.
Colorado College will play SCAC travel partner Austin College next Saturday in Sherman, Texas.
