Korustan's goal lifts CC past Southwestern

Berk Korustan snapped a 1-1 tie with just over two minutes remaining in the game to lift the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Southwestern University on Friday afternoon in Georgetown, Texas.

The Tigers improved to 8-1 overall with their fifth consecutive victory and 2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Korustan's goal was his first of the season and the first game winner of his career.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead 22:10 into the game on a goal by Preston Hollis, but senior forward Logan Boccard scored the equalizer 4:47 later when he ran down a long outlet pass from sophomore defenseman Wil Nelp.

Colorado College dominated the first half, posting a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal, but Ryan Tasin had nine of his 11 saves to keep SWU in the game.

The Pirates had the territorial advantage in the second half, but were unable to solve junior goalkeeper Brian Engle, who recorded all five of his saves in the final 45 minutes.

A share of first place in the SCAC will be on the line when Colorado College travels to Trinity University on Sunday.
