CC now 6-0-1 after blanking Army

Tigers cruise to 3-0 victory

So far, so good.

Showing no signs of fatigue despite playing twice in less than 24 hours, Colorado College methodically continued about its business on Sunday.

CC thoroughly dominated Army, hammering out a 3-0 victory over the Black Knights on Day 2 of the Air Force Academy's Falcon Invitational at the Cadet Soccer Field.

Lauren Talbot, Ericka Baer and Molly Uyenishi took care of the scoring. Geneva Sills and Caitlin Hulyo each played a half in net, combining to make four saves in the team's fourth shutout of the season.

The triumph, coupled with Saturday's 2-1 overtime thriller over the nationally ranked University of Denver, kept the Tigers undefeated for the season at 6-0-1 as they look ahead to their first real trip – to the University of Illinois and Purdue University of the Big Ten – next weekend.

“We're off to a great start,” said head coach Geoff Bennett, who was able to rest players and experiment with different combinations on Sunday. “But we know that we still have a lot of work to do, with a lot of room for improvement. We need to get right back to work this week, because we've got a couple unbelievable tough road games coming up at Illinois and Purdue. Hopefully, we'll stay on the ball and keep it going.”

The seven-game unbeaten streak to start the season is Colorado College's best in Bennett's five years at the helm. It's the program's best overall since opening the 2000 campaign with eight consecutive victories.

Talbot's game winner on Sunday, a running header off a perfectly placed corner kick by Alison Kreisler, snapped a scoreless deadlock in the 36th minute of play. The corner kick was CC's eighth of the match at that point, as the Tigers had established and maintained a decided territorial advantage long before seizing the lead.

The tallies by Baer and Uyenishi came just 94 seconds apart early in the second half. Baer one-timed a centering pass from Sydney Fetter after a CC throw-in at 59:08, and Uyenishi cashed in on a penalty kick at 60:42. Although Hulyo handled the ball on several occasions in her collegiate debut, she needed to make only one save after replacing Sills at the intermission.
