Trevor Cobb set up the Tigers' first two goals, including
Ben Beadle-Ryby's game winner in the 32nd minute, to lead Colorado College to a 5-1 victory over Birmingham-Southern College on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.
It was the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season for both teams. The Tigers improved to 6-1 overall, while the Panthers dropped to 1-8.
Senior defender
Jimmer Comerford gave CC an early lead when his header off Cobb's indirect from 35 yards out beat BSC goalkeeper Hal Halbert. It marked the second game in a row and the third time this season the Tigers scored in the first 10 minutes of a game.
Beadle-Ryby's goal came off an almost identical set piece. As Cobb's kick curved into the penalty box, CC's captain jumped and kicked the ball just inside the left post. It was the third career game-winning goal for Beadle-Ryby, his first since a 1-0 victory at Whittier College on Oct. 29, 2006.
Cobb has been involved in five of the Tigers' six game winners this season, scoring three and setting up two. The junior co-captain leads the team with five assists and 13 points.
Brendan Douglas extended his goal scoring streak to three games 9:06 into the second half when he knocked in
Berk Korustan's corner kick. Colorado extended its lead to 4-0 when
Wes Rikkers converted on a penalty kick after the Panthers were called for hand ball in the penalty box.
Joe Burrage put BSC on the board when he took a cross Nick Pikahis from left side of the box and put a shot from outside the goal box on the right side back against the grain inside the left post.
CC's
Brian Engle had five saves while improving to 3-0-0 in goal. Hal Holbert made four saves the Panthers before giving was to Shachar Hovan foe the final 14:21.
Colorado College will play host to Millsaps College (5-5, 1-0 SCAC) on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. The Majors defeated Austin College, 4-2, on Friday afternoon in Sherman, Texas. Birmingham-Southern will travel to Austin College on Sunday.
