Douglas strikes twice, but Tigers fall at Centre

Senior forward Brendan Douglas scored a pair of goals early in the first half, but Centre College rallied for a 3-2 victory in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.

Douglas gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead 13:54 into the game after taking a feed from senior midfielder Jordan Reese, and the duo combined again just 5:41 later when Douglas scored off a corner kick by Reese.

It was the second career multi-goal game for Douglas, who tied freshman forward Matt Fechter for the team lead with four scores. It also was Reese's second career two-assist game.

Austin Hall started Centre's comeback when he scored his first goal of the game in the 25th minute, and then the Colonel's tied the game with 9:04 remaining in the first half when Josh Settle scored off a Harry Gerard corner kick.

Hall scored the game winner in the 61st minute after taking a pass from Ben Van Nevel.

The three goals are most ever allowed by senior goalkeeper Brian Engle, who had never given up more than one goal in an SCAC game. Engle finished with four saves.

Centre was able to exploit the Tiger defense which was playing without Wil Nelp, who was ineligible after he received a red card in Friday's game at DePauw.

Chris Jackson made two saves for the Colonels, who had a 16-10 edge in total shots and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers, 4-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference play, play their only game of the week on Saturday when Austin College visits Stewart Field for an SCAC contest at 1 p.m.
