Colorado College won five of six singles matches to defeat Southwestern University, 7-2, on Saturday morning at the 2009 Southern Collegiate Athletic Tennis Championships.
The Tigers improved to 2-1 in the tournament and won for the fourth time in their last seven matches. CC won for the second time at the SCAC meet and third time overall when trailing after the doubles matches.
Thomas Modern and Kenny Reid won for the second time in three matches by defeating D'Artagnan Bebel and Casey Guinn, 8-9, at No. 3 doubles. They own CC's only two doubles points in the tournament.
Dan Solomon remained perfect this weekend by defeating Nick Parker 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Solomon leads the Tigers with a 13-4 singles record.
Brian Thirkell improved his tournament record to 2-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over CJ Esquivel at No. 3 singles. Modern also has won two of three matches this weekend after outlasting Bebel 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The 11th-seeded Tigers will face fifth-seeded Oglethorpe University in the fifth-sixth place match at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Burn Park Tennis Center in North Little Rock.
