Tigers fall to Whitman in overtime

Watching its opponent snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, Colorado College literally let one slip away on Saturday.

Junior forward Chris Reid's shot from just outside the box deflected off a defender and found the back of the net in the sixth minute of overtime, lifting Whitman College to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Tigers at Stewart Field.

Reid, who led all players with six shots overall in the match, also set up the tying goal by Todd Wallenius with just 2:24 left in regulation as the visiting Missionaries posted their first victory of the season and handed struggling CC its third consecutive loss.

Senior midfielder Jordan Reese came within inches of winning it for Colorado College when his rocket from 20 yards out hit the cross bar in the opening minute of sudden death.

But this one really should have never reached that point. The Tigers held a decided territorial edge, finishing with a 27-16 advantage in attempted shots. They just couldn't capitalize on any more of several golden opportunities after sophomore Ryan Jaeger's first career tally, at 30:09 of the first half, staked them to their 1-0 lead.

Goalkeepers Devin Kuh of Whitman and Brian Engle each made seven saves in the contest.
