As far as ties go, this one probably was as good as they get for Colorado College.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Caitlin Hulyo posted her second consecutive shutout on Sunday, backstopping the Tigers to a scoreless draw with the 13th-ranked University of Kansas at Stewart Field.
And, combined with Friday's 3-0 victory over Texas Christian that kept CC undefeated at home this season at 3-0-1, head coach
Geoff Bennett had no reason to complain.
“We'll take that result,” Bennett said after seeing his team move to 3-2-1 overall in 2009. “Again I was very pleased with our effort. Sunday games always are difficult to play, especially against a very good, well coached team like Kansas, so I'm happy. The kids played hard. When you can come out of a weekend 1-0-1 against two opponents of that quality, we'll take it. But, at the end of day, we've still got to refocus and start getting ready for New Hampshire.”
In an earlier match on Day 2 of the 2009 CC Invitational, the University of Denver edged TCU by a score of 3-2.
Hulyo made five saves in the nightcap as her defense did an excellent job of limiting KU's scoring chances. The Jawhawks, now 5-1-1, came within inches of winning the match in the final 20 seconds of overtime, but a shot toward an open net by junior defender Lauren Jackson from the left side rolled just wide of the far post. Earlier, with five minutes left in regulation, Hulyo robbed Kansas freshman Whitney Berry from close range after Berry took a nice pass deep in the right side of the box.
CC's best opportunity of the game came in the 81st minute, when freshman midfielder
Hannah Peterson got free to the left of Jayhawks keeper Julie Hanley. But Hanley got a hand on Peterson's shot from eight yards away that was headed for the upper part of the net. Hanley finished with three saves.
The Tigers play host to the University of New Hampshire and Cal Poly at Stewart Field next Friday and Saturday.
