CC falls to No. 12 Trinity in double overtime

Tommy Barros scored with 4:59 remaining in double overtime to give No. 12 Trinity University a 1-0 victory over Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon at CC's Stewart Field.

The play began with an errant pass as Colorado College was organizing to move the ball out of its defensive zone. TU's Ben Grossman was able to gain possession before the CC defenders could converge. Grossman's centering pass slipped past goalkeeper Brian Engle and Barros was waiting to score in an open net.

The goal spoiled an incredible effort by Engle, who kept Colorado College in the game by stopping seven Trinity shots, including five taken from point-blank range.

Patrick Johnson made five saves, including the only two in the first overtime when CC had a territorial advantage.

Trinity finished with 16-11 edge in total shots and a decisive 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Colorado College slipped to 2-4-1 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC. Trinity improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

CC will play host to the Milwaukee School of Engineering and the University of Dallas in non-conference games next Friday and Saturday, respectively.
