Last-place Sewanee shocks Tigers

Colorado College missed out on a golden opportunity to climb into sole possession of first place in the SCAC's Western Division by dropping a 62-55 decision at Sewanee on Friday night.

The Tigers slipped to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC, but managed to stay in a three-way tie atop the division thanks to losses by Austin College and Southwestern University. The University of the South improved to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Colorado College led 49-48 when Jeremiah Waters drained a three-pointer with 4:02 remaining in the game, but was outscored 14-6 the rest of the way.

CC cut its deficit to one point twice during the final minute, but the Tigers missed their final three shots and Sewanee put the game away by making six consecutive free throws during the final 33 seconds.

Nick Rose recorded his first double-double of the season with a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Brady Ohlsen added 11 points and eight rebounds, while Waters scored 10.

Colorado College made just 20 of 60 shots from the floor for a .333 field-goal percentage, the lowest in a conference game this season. It wasn't much better at the free-throw line, where CC made just seven of 15 attempts for a .467 average.

The Tigers appeared to be taking control when they took a 23-16 lead after Waters knocked down a 3-pointer, but CC missed eight of its next 10 shots and UOS forged a 28-28 tie after 20 minutes.

Garrett Hollingsworth paced Sewanee with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Lewis Affronti and Trent Williams added 11 points apiece.

Colorado College travels to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe University on Sunday.
