Colorado College split a pair of matches on Saturday at the Rhodes Invitational, staring the day with a 6-3 victory over Hendrix College before falling to Oglethorpe University, 5-2, in the nightcap.
Evan Jonker and Will Lindsay prevailed in three-set matches to secure the tightly-contested win over Hendrix. Jonker lost the first set 6-0 at No. 2 singles, but rallied to take the next two by 6-2, 10-5 scores. Lindsay dropped the first set at No. 5 singles by a 6-4 count, but came from behind to claim the match 6-1, 14-12.
Other close matches won by the Tigers included No. 3 singles where Lionel Zen-Ruffinen claimed a 6-4, 6-4 victory and No. 2 doubles which went to the team of Sam Barnard and Thomas Modern by an 8-6 score.
CC improved to 7-0 when leading after doubles.
Colorado College saw its four-match winning streak come to an end against Oglethorpe.
Zach White recorded his fifth-straight singles victory with a 6-3, 7-6(6) win at No. 5 doubles, and Thomas Modern cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Leading 4-2 in a match where the singles contests were played first, the Stormy Petrels sealed the team victory by posting an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles. The other doubles matches were suspended.
Colorado College wraps up it's first-ever appearance in the Rhodes Invitational with a showdown against the host Lynx on Sunday.
