Colorado College defeated Hendrix College, 5-4, in its first match at the 2010 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, but dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seeded Trinity in the final match of the day.
Against Hendrix, the Tigers grabbed a 2-1 lead during doubles play and held on for the victory by splitting the singles matches.
Zach White earned a point in both matches, combining with Will Lindsay for an 8-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles before claiming a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles. It was White's team-leading 10 singles win of the season.
Sam Barnard and Evan Jonker gave CC its second doubles point by prevailing 8-6 at the No. 2 match.
Lionel Zen-Ruffinen moved the Tigers to within one point of the team victory by posting a 7-5, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles, and Thomas Modern sealed the win with a 6-4, 7-6 triumph at No. 4 singles.
Trinity, ranked No. 14 in Division III, won all three double matches that were moved indoors because of rain.
TU clinched the match with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 singles to advance to a quarterfinal match against Oglethorpe University.
Colorado College faces fourth-seed Sewanee on Saturday at 11 a.m.
