Oglethorpe stuns Tigers in overtime

Box Score Ben Robertson scored on a direct kick 2:28 into overtime to give Oglethorpe University a 2-1 victory over Colorado College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon at CC's Stewart Field.

Robertson's shot from 25 yards out found the top left corner of the net, barely getting by the outstretched hands of goalkeeper Brian Graf.

Oglethorpe took its first lead in the 65th minute when Nick Williamson's header from the center of the box off a Harrison McConnell cross found the lower left corner.

Colorado College tied the game exactly two minutes later when Daniel Wright collected a through ball from Sean Parham and beat Frank Petersen with a shot to the top right side.

The rest of the game came down to missed opportunities for the Tigers, who finished with a 24-15 advantage in total shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

CC missed wide open nets twice in the opening half, first on a shot from the center of the box that went over the crossbar and then on a header from the right side that sailed just wide of the far post.

When Colorado College did put shots on frame, Petersen was there to make the play. He came up big just 1:01 into the game when he denied Parham from five yards out in the center of the box. Petersen finished with five saves.

Graf finished with eight saves, including a diving stop on Jeff Arsenault's drive from the left side of the box that was headed for the far post early in the first half. He also denied Sean Bell with a diving effort midway through the second half.

The Tigers slipped to 7-3-3 overall and 2-2-0 in the SCAC. The Stormy Petrels improved to 10-2-0 and 4-0-0 in league play.

Colorado College plays at home again next weekend when Austin College and the University of Dallas visit Stewart Field on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
