Colorado College continues its stretch drive toward earning home ice for the first round of the WCHA playoffs when the Tigers take on Minnesota State University in a key two-game series at the World Arena this weekend.
Faceoff is 7:37 p.m. MT Friday and 7:07 p.m. MT Saturday as the teams meet for the third and fourth times in 2010-11. Only eight regular-season outings remain for CC, which will be on the road for two of the final three weeks of the campaign.
The 19th-ranked Tigers, 16-13-1 overall, remain tied for sixth place in the WCHA standings with a 10-10 record in league play. They split a pair of decisions against the University of Denver last weekend, winning 3-2 at the World Arena on Friday but falling by a 5-3 count at DU's Magness Arena on Saturday
Minnesota State, currently tied for ninth in the conference standings, is 12-12-6 overall and 6-12-4 in WCHA play. The Mavericks also split last weekend, claiming a 2-1 overtime victory over Bemidji State University on Friday before suffering a 4-1 loss to the Beavers the following night, both at home.
Friday's series opener marks the 43rd meeting between Colorado College and MSU. The teams split a pair of decisions in Mankato, Minn., last October, when CC bounced back for 1-0 victory in the series finale after losing the opener by a score of 5-4. The Tigers own a 28-13-1 overall advantage in the rivalry, including a 16-6 mark on home ice.
