Boivin earns early honor from WCHA

Senior blue-line specialist named Defensive Player of the Week

Senior defenseman Mike Boivin was honored as Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after the veteran blue liner helped lead Colorado College to a two-game, season-opening sweep of Clarkson University last weekend at the World Arena.

The 6-1, 190-pound Boivin, who hails from Delta, British Columbia, contributed a pair of key assists, fired 12 shots on goal and earned a +1 plus-minus rating as CC recorded a pair of 5-4 victories over the visiting Golden Knights. In the series opener on Friday, he assisted on teammate Jeff Collett's second-period shorthanded tally that gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead. Then, on Saturday, he set up William Rapuzzi's game-winning goal at 19:00 of the third period and had a game-high nine shots on target, including seven in the final frame when Colorado College rallied from a 4-3 deficit.

In 82 career games at CC, Boivin has collected 40 points (12g,28a).

One of seven seniors on the roster, he'll help lead the 19th-ranked Tigers again this week as they continue non-conference play with a 7 p.m. contest at Air Force on Friday and return to the World Arena on Saturday for a 7:07 p.m. encounter with No. 9-ranked UMass Lowell.
