CC comes up short in loss to Luther

The men's tennis team came up short in a hard fought 6-3 loss to Luther College on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.

Tuesday's competition saw two doubles matches go to extra points and three singles matches go to extra sets.

“Today showed that our hard work is starting to pay off in both doubles and singles,” said head coach Todd Doebler. “Although we lost today, the guys are really showing signs of improvement.”

The Tigers began the day with victory by Nate Burt and Lionel Zen-Ruffinen at the No. 1 doubles position. Burt and Zen-Ruffinen beat Scott Sundstrom and Ramesh Karki in a convincing 8-2 win to earn their second straight victory at No. 1 doubles.

Will Lindsay and Jack Burger came up just shy at No. 2 doubles falling to James Ayer and Quinn Foley, 9-8. Zach White and Robert Kasemodel also had a hard fought match, but fell to Aaron Gendron and Tyler Zinneker in a close 9-7 loss at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Lindsay earned his third straight win of the season at No. 2 singles against Gendron with a 6-4, 7-5 win.  Lindsay is now 3-2 on the season in the No. 2 singles position.

Kasemodel earned the final point for CC at No. 5 singles by beating Torstein Jystad. He went ahead 7-5 in the first set, but dropped the second set 6-2. Kasemodel was then able to rally back in the third set to win 6-1.

Burt had a close match at No. 1 singles, but came up on the wrong side against Karki. Burt won the first set, 6-3 but dropped the remaining two sets, 6-2, 10-6. Burger also sent his match to extra sets, but was unable to pull out the victory falling to Ayer, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
