Burger lifts CC into championship match

Jack Burger's victory at No. 5 singles gave Colorado College a 5-4 victory over Southwestern University and a berth in the championship match of the 2013 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship.

Burger prevailed by a 6-4, 7-6 count over Jonathan Sandoval to give the Tigers a shot at their first conference title against host Trinity University on Saturday night.

CC got a much-needed point from Oliver Gunter, who came from behind to post a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Sam McCready at No. 3 singles.

Colorado College led 2-1 after the doubles matches, only to see the Pirates win a pair of three-set marathons at the first and second singles matches.

Burger and Casey Shaw won both matches against SU. Burger teamed with Zach White for an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Shaw combined with Robert Kasemodel for an 8-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
