Â
With five conference games remaining, Colorado College is fifth in the MW standings with 10 points. The Tigers trail first-place San Diego State by eight, but are only five behind second-place Wyoming.
Â
CC is 7-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in the conference after splitting a pair of road games for the second week in a row. The Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision in double overtime at the University of Wyoming on Friday, but rebounded to defeat Colorado State University by the same score on Sunday in Fort Collins.
Â
UNLV dropped to 7-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the MW after falling at home to New Mexico (1-0) and San Diego State (3-0) last week. Nevada will take a 4-10-1 overall record and 1-5-0 conference mark into Friday's game at Air Force. Last week, the Wolf Pack lost to SDSU (5-1) and New Mexico (1-0) in Reno.Â
Â
With Sunday's 3-2 triumph at Colorado State, head coach
Geoff Bennett surpassed Dang Pibulvech for first place on the program's career list with 120 victories. Bennett, now is in his 11th season at CC, owns a 120-63-31 (.633) record with the Tigers. Pibulvech, who still holds the record for career winning percentage, posted a 119-26-6 (.804) mark from 1983 through 1990. With double-digit victories in seven of the last eight seasons, Bennett improved his career mark to 168-105-41 (.568).
Â
Colorado College, which is second in the conference in scoring, has nine players with at least one goal and 14 with one or more points. Three Tigers are among the MW's top point producers, led by junior midfielder
Sarah Schweiss who is tied for fourth with six goals and a pair of assists.
Â
Senior forward
Rachel Herron has five goals and an assist, and is tied for ninth with senior midfielder
Jessie Ayers, who has four goals and three assists. With four goals and two assists, senior midfielder
Kaeli Vandersluis gives CC four players with double-digit points.
Â
Freshman Rowan Fredericksen is 6-3-2 in goal with a 1.49 goals-against average and a .724 saves percentage. Junior defender
Alexis Long and senior midfielder
Jennifer Stoot are two of the five Tigers to start all 14 games and are first and fourth, respectively, in minutes played.
Â
So far this season, the Tigers are 2-1-0 against their in-state rivals and 1-1-0 in games that count in the Colorado Cup standings. Currently, the University of Colorado is on top of the standings with 14 points. Colorado College is second with eight, followed by Denver (7), Northern Colorado (6), Colorado State (4) and Air Force (0).
Â
Teams earn three points for a win, one point for a tie and one point for each goal scored. Due to an unequal amount of contests this year, each team was limited to three games in which the results would count, meaning Sunday's victory and three goals at Colorado State are not included in CC's points total. The Tigers can claim the cup by defeating Air Force and scoring at least four goals in the regular-season finale on Oct. 31 at Stewart Field.
Â
The Tigers embark on their final road trip of the regular season next week. CC visits San Jose State on Friday, Oct. 24, at 2 p.m. PT, and then travels to Fresno State for a 1 p.m. PT kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 26.
