Weekly Release No. 11 >Colorado College plays its final game of the regular season at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, when cross-town rival Air Force descends upon Stewart Field for the first time since 2006.
CC is 10-5-3 overall and tied for fourth in the Mountain West with a 5-2-1 conference mark after splitting a pair of road games in California last weekend. The Tigers dropped a 3-2 decision at San Jose State University on Friday, but rallied for a 2-1 victory at Fresno State on Sunday. By defeating the Bulldogs, they clinched a berth in the next week's conference tournament.
Air Force, which is 7-9-1 overall and tied for seventh in the MW standings, needs a victory on Friday as well as a loss or tie by both Boise State and San Jose State to extend its season. The Falcons defeated Fresno State, 4-0, last Friday, but dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime at SJSU on Sunday. Â
Colorado College owns a 9-3-0 advantage in the all-time series with Air Force, which includes a 6-0-0 mark in games played at Stewart Field. Regardless of where the teams play, fans can expect a tight, low scoring game because 10 of the 12 previous meetings, including each of the last six, were decided by one goal. Three of those games went to overtime, with the
Tigers prevailing on each occasion. Only three times in the previous 12 games did the winning team score three or more goals.
Seven Tigers will play their final home game on Friday. CC's seniors –
Jessie Ayers,
Mary Bowman,
Rachel Herron,
Jordan Savold ,
Jaclyn Silsby,
Jennifer Stoot and
Kaeli Vandersluis – have a combined record of 49-18-14 (.691), won back-to-back Conference USA regular-season crowns, won the 2013 C-USA postseason championship and made a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances.
Balance continues to be the key for the Colorado College offense, with 11 players having scored a goal and 15 recording at least one point. Junior midfielder
Sarah Schweiss leads the team with career highs of seven goals and 16 points, while Herron is right behind with six goals and 16 points.
Vandersluis (5g/2a) and Ayers (4g/4a) are tied for third with 12 points. Junior forward
Chanisse Hendrix is tied for the team lead with four assists.
Rowan Fredericksen is 9-4-2 in goal with five shutouts. The freshman keeper ranks eighth in the league with a 1.30 GAA and a .744 saves percentage.
Next week, the Tigers travel to San Diego for the 2014 Mountain West Championship, which begins on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at San Diego State University.
The six-team bracket will be announced once the participating teams are determined at the conclusion of Friday's games. The semifinals will be played on Thursday, Nov. 6, followed by the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 8.
All tournament matches will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network. Tickets for all five matches are available through the SDSU ticket office.
