The Colorado College men's tennis team opened its 2014-15 season Friday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to Colorado Mesa University at the Burghart Courts on the CC campus.
Â
The Mavericks jumped out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. CC's No. 2 team of
Brian Chen and
Taylor Delehanty provided the closest match, falling 8-3 to Cody Freischlag and Andres Garcia-Rojas.
Â
CMU kept the momentum throughout the singles action with straight-set victories at all six spots.
Jake Peterson battled Ben Schlichting to a 6-2, 6-4 score at the No. 6 position.
Â
"This was a great way to kick off our fall season," said CC head coach
Anthony Weber. "Mesa is a very good team and this was great to prepare for a tournament at Metro State next weekend. It gives me an idea of what we need to work on for the next five weeks. I thought the guys fought hard and was impressed with performances from
Casey Shaw and
Jason Gutierrez."
Â
The Tigers compete at the Metro State Invitational in Denver, Sept. 20-21. Â Â Â Â
