Jack Burger captured Colorado College's lone victory on Thursday as the CC men's tennis team fell to Southwestern University, 8-1, Thursday in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Burger improved to 9-5 and snapped a four-match losing streak at the No. 2 singles spot with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Ayinde Hall. Junior
Taylor Delehanty extended SU's Grant Gideon to three sets at the No. 4 position before falling, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3. The Pirates won the other four singles matches in straight sets.

Southwestern jumped out to an early 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Burger and sophomore
Jason Gutierrez fell 8-6 at the top spot, while Delehanty and freshman
Jake Peterson dropped a 9-7 decision at No. 2.

"Our guys played a much improved Southwestern team, which lived up to its No. 15 regional ranking," CC head coach
Anthony Weber said. "Jason played a tremendous match at No. 1 and Burger fought off cramps to out-work another opponent. Taylor is playing some of the best tennis of his career."
