The Colorado College men's tennis team battled hard but came up just short against Schreiner University Saturday, falling 5-4 to the Mountaineers in Kerrville, Texas.

After losing all three doubles matches, the Tigers roared back to win four of the first five singles matches off the court. Sophomore
Jason Gutierrez got things rolling with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the top spot over Nick Pena. Senior
Jack Burger followed suit, defeating Austin Carrola, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2.

Schriener's Dayton Hancock won a three-setter, 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 over junior
Casey Shaw at the No. 3 spot, but CC won at Nos. 4 and 5 to even the match at 4-all. Junior
Taylor Delehanty beat Isaac Vasquez, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 and fellow junior
Ross Sherman downed Josh Ramirez, 6-2, 7-6(5) at No. 5 to set up the winner-take-all No. 6 match.

CC sophomore
Jack Benham the first set 6-3 against Christian Casillas, but could not hold that lead as Casillas rallied to win the final two sets, 6-4, 7-5 and clinch the match for the Mountaineers.

The Tigers (3-13) wrap up their regular season on Sunday, April 19, against Texas Lutheran in Seguin, Texas.
