Rae Conlon clicked for a pair of goals as the Colorado College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 in the Mountain West with a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon in a game that kicked off at 102 degrees under scorching sunlight.
The senior midfielder put the Tigers on the board in the 25th minute when she found the net with a sliding kick from five yards away off Conlon's cross from the right side.
Schweiss completed her first multiple-goal game of the season and the third of her career in the 62nd minute when she found the net on an almost identical play.
The Monument, Colo., product became the 13th player in program in program history to record 20 or more career goals. She currently is tied with Tara Nott (1990-93) for 11th place with 21.
Schweiss also climbed into sole possession of 13th place with 55 career points.
With the first two assists of her career, Conlon now is tied with Schweiss and senior defender
Samantha Curran for the team lead.
The Rebels cut CC's lead in half with a little more than 20 minutes to play on a goal by Denali Murnan, but the Tigers did not allow another shot on frame.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Louisa Mackenzie made five saves for Colorado College, which improved to 4-6-1 overall with its third victory in the last four games.
"Such a great weekend on the road," head coach
Geoff Bennett said. "We battled two good teams in two extremely difficult environments. I am very proud of our effort, but we know this is just one weekend. We now return for four games and we all know we need to make the most of it."
UNLV registered a 19-12 edge in total shots and a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks, but only was able to generate six shots on goal.
Jordan Sallee stopped three shots for the Rebels, who slipped to 5-6-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
The Tigers return home to open a four-game MW home stand, beginning Friday, Oct. 2, against Colorado State University at Stewart Field.
