Box Score Colorado College scored three goals in a little less than 12 minutes late in the second half and went on to defeat Texas Lutheran University, 4-2, on Friday night.
"We certainly dug a hole for ourselves tonight, but the response over the last 20 minutes was outstanding," head coach
Scott Palguta said. "Our bench didn't play a lot of minutes, but their contributions were immense."
Trailing 2-0 with just over 20 minutes play, senior defender
Christian Wulff ignited the comeback when he headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder
Tim Huettel.
Just over two minutes later, freshman forward
Ben Green leveled the score when he beat TLU goalkeeper Victor Rodriguez with a header off of a cross from Wulff.
The Tigers took the lead in the 81st minute when Huettel scored on a direct kick from 18 yards inside the near post, and received an insurance goal 85 seconds later when a Bulldog defender knocked a cross from
Joel Frykholm into his own net.
"I was pleased to see
Christian Wulff lead by example with a goal and an assist to start the comeback," Palguta said. "Good teams can come from behind and we certainly checked that box tonight."
TLU broke through in the 26th minute when Victor Manzaba scored from 15 yards away off of a cross from Cameron Townes.
The Bulldogs doubled their lead 8:40 into the second half on a goal by Guillermo Guerra.
CC finished with a 19-8 advantage in total shots and a 9-5 edge in corner kicks.
Colorado College junior goaltender
Theo Hooker stopped a pair of shots and the defense was credited with three team saves for knocking ball away from the line.
The Tigers, who improved to 11-2-1 overall and 8-2-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, visit Southwestern University on Sunday at noon CT.
