KU improved to 3-1-0 overall with a pair of road wins last week. The Jayhawks recorded 2-0 victories at the University of Tulsa on Friday, Aug. 25, and at Oregon State University two days later.
Â
Kansas owns a 2-0-1 lead in the series with Colorado College which began in 2005. In the most recent meeting on Sept. 13, 2015, the Jayhawks overcame an early deficit to steal a 2-1 victory in double overtime at Stewart Field. In the only previous game in Lawrence on Oct. 21, 2005, KU prevailed by the same score. The Tigers and Jayhawks battled to a 0-0 deadlock on Sept. 13, 2009, in Colorado Springs.
Â
CC averages 1.0 goals per game while allowing 1.67. Junior midfielder
Kelli Sullivan, freshman midfielder
Riley Prillwitz and freshman defender
Camille Weaver have scored for the Tigers. Senior defender
Anne-Sophie Lapointe has the team's only assist. Freshman goalkeeper
Jade Odom owns a 1-1-0 record along with a 0.94 goals-against average and a .778 saves percentage.
Â
Weaver struck for the game-winning goal with 75 seconds remaining in the game to lift Colorado College to a 2-1 victory over UAlbany. Weaver collected a loose ball near midfield off of a clearing attempt, weaved her way through the Great Dane defense and put a shot over the fingertips of the Albany goalkeeper from 25 yards out.
Â
Prillwitz gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead near the end of the 15th minute when the opposing keeper mishandled a long ball off the boot of junior midfielder
Lauren Milliet. Pressure from Prillwitz kept the ball in play and she got just enough of it to propel it over the line.
Â
CC was in control until a 54-minute lightning delay that began in the 61st minute and UAlbany tied the game on a penalty kick with a little less than eight minutes remaining in the contest. Odom made four saves en route to her first career victory.
Â
Just like last year's squad, the 2017 Colorado College women's soccer team is one of the youngest in head coach
Geoff Bennett's 14-year tenure. With eight sophomores and eight first-year players, two-thirds of this year's Tigers are underclassmen. Only the 2010 team that featured 17 underclassmen among its 24 available players was statistically younger. The 2010 Tigers finished the season with an 8-7-4 overall record.
Â
Since allowing three goals in a loss to the University of Nebraska on Aug. 18, Kansas has outscored its last three opponents, 7-0. Sophomore midfielder Sofie Maierhofer leads the Jayhawks with three goals, while junior forward Grace Hagan has one tally and a pair of assists. Senior Maddie Dobyns has played all 360 minutes in goal for KU and owns a 0.75 GAA and an .850 saves percentage. Hagan factored in both Kansas goals while Dobyns stopped three shots when the teams last met in 2015.
Â
After Friday's game at Kansas, CC returns home to host South Dakota on Friday night, Sept. 8, at Washburn Field and then Army on Sunday, Sept. 10, at Stewart Field.
