The Colorado College men's tennis team nearly pulled off its second upset of the 2018 SCAC Championships Sunday but suffered a 5-4 loss to Austin College in the third-place match at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.
 
The fifth-seeded Tigers, who defeated the fourth-seed Schreiner in the quarterfinals on Friday, couldn't complete the comeback on Sunday after losing two of the three doubles matches. Senior Brian Chen and junior Christian Kitchen won the No. 2 match, 8-6, over Eric Meendsen and Josh Granberry.
 
Austin's Calum Robe won the No. 4 match, 6-2, 6-2, over sophomore Logan Pepperl to give the third-seeded 'Roos a 3-1 lead, but sophomore Noah Forman rallied to beat Kenneth Hardy, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, at the top spot and Chen won the final match of his career, 6-3, 6-4, over Meendsen at No. 6 to even the team match at 3-all.
 
After Austin won at the No. 5 spot, freshman Sam Hum gutted out a 7-6(6), 6-2 victory over Granberry and the match came down to the No. 3 tilt. Andres Padilla of Austin won the first set, 7-5, against freshman Alex Kley, but Kley took the second set, 6-4. Padilla raced out to a 5-0 lead in the third and hung on to win, 6-2, and clinch the team match.
 
Colorado College finished the season with a 5-16 record.
