Colorado College utilized a dominating defensive performance and a timely goal from senior midfielder
Lauren Milliet to defeat the University of Nevada, 1-0, on a breezy Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Despite limiting the Wolfpack to just two shots on goal, the Tigers were in a scoreless deadlock until the 56th minute.
That's when Milliet took a feed from junior midfielder
Lucia Costanza and sent a laser from the top of the box through a pair of Nevada defenders and inside the left post for the only goal of the game. Â
With its third consecutive win, CC improved to 7-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the Mountain West.
The play began with a cross from junior midfielder
Johanna Hamblett, who made a run down the left sideline. The ball deflected off freshman forward
Kiley Suter and was picked up by Costanza, who took a couple of touches before dishing it to Milliet.
Milliet now has factored in 14 game-winning goals during her career, scoring seven and setting up seven. She leads the Tigers with two game winners this season.
The Durango, Colo., product also continued her climb in the program's record book and now ranks 14th with 19 career goals and tied for 15th with 53 points.
Costanza tied Milliet for the team lead with four assists, three of which set up the deciding goal in a game this season. She also assisted on the game-winning goal in victories over the University of Denver and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
Colorado College launched 16 total shots, compared to only seven for the Wolf Pack. The Tigers also earned a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
Jade Odom made a pair of saves while posting her fourth clean sheet of the season. CC's sophomore goalkeeper lowered her goals-against average to 0.79 and improved her saves percentage to .818.
Odom's best stops occurred on crosses when she came off her line to diffuse dangerous situations.
The closest Nevada came to scoring was midway through the 74th minute when senior forward Angel Meriwether sent a shot over the crossbar from the right side of the box, and at the end of the 79th minute sophomore midfielder Hanna Souza's crossing shot from the right side sailed inches wide of the far post.
Freshman keeper Kendal Stovall stopped eight shots for the Wolf Pack, which slipped to 4-6-2 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Oct. 5, when they visit the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
