Catie McDonald struck for a pair of goals, including the game winner in the 86th minute, as the Colorado College women's soccer team did what it needed to do to keep its kept its postseason alive with a 3-2 victory over Air Force on Friday night.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, San Jose State overcame a one-goal halftime deficit to defeat Fresno State, 2-1, and claim the final spot in the six-team Mountain West Championship.
The Tigers finished the season with a 10-7-0 overall record and a 5-6-0 mark in the conference. Air Force slipped to 10-7-1 overall and 5-6-0 in the conference.
CC now has won nine straight games against the Falcons and leads the all-time series 15-3-0.
Air Force broke through in the 24th minute on the first of two goals from Emma Nelson.
The Tigers leveled the score on an own goal in the 26th minute, then took the lead for the first time when McDonald found the net with 10:09 to play before halftime.
Nelson tied the game in the 67th minute and the game appeared to be headed to overtime for the just the fifth time in the series as time wore down.
However, McDonald completed the second brace of her career with 4:21 to play after taking a touch from
Hailee Rasmussen.
It marked the second time McDonald scored twice at the Academy. The senior midfielder struck for a pair of goals, including the game winner with a little more than 19 minutes to play, to lift CC to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Falcons in 2017.
The Colorado College defense clamped down and did not allow a shot during the remaining time.
CC finished with a 17-16 edge in total shots and a
Molly Hiniker made five saves for Colorado College.
Danielle Katz stopped four shots for Air Force, all in the second half.
