Tigers Hang On To Defeat Centenary

Box Score The Colorado College men's soccer team jumped out to a 5-1 lead against Centenary College Friday night at Washburn Field, then hung on as the Gents scored the final three goals of the game in a 5-4 Tiger victory.

Colorado College snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-2 this season.

After leading 2-1 at the half, the Tigers seemed to put the game away with three goals in a span of 5 minutes, 17 seconds. Jackson Silverstein scored in the 47th minute, followed by Hayden Cogswell in the 49th and Will Mallory in the 52nd.

The Gents didn't fold, however, and scored three goals of their own in a span of 5:50 midway through the second stanza. Andres Bautista scored in the 56th minute, then Nick Garcia and Jaron Petreas each collected a goal in the 60th and 61st minute, respectively, to make it 5-4.

The Tigers clamped down on defense after that and allowed just one shot by Centenary in the final 29 minutes

CC jumped on the scoreboard early in the contest as Samson Heyer took a pass from Sam Bermingham and placed a shot from 10 yards past Centenary goalie Sami Borchalli. Heyer's first goal of the season came in the fifth minute.

The Gents evened the score in the 20th minute when Bautista sprinted down the left side and dropped a pass for Rolando Hernandez, who beat CC keeper Keller Mochel from 15 yards just inside the near post.

Freshman Sajjan Singh put the Tigers ahead for good in the 43rd minute with his second tally of the season. Mallory sent a corner kick into the box and Singh headed the ball off the head of a Centenary defender just under the crossbar to give CC a 2-1 advantage at the break.
